Jordanhill Guild is a branch member of the Church of Scotland National Guild.

Meetings are held on alternate Tuesday evenings, beginning at 7.30 p.m.

A short period of worship is usually followed by invited speakers who bring news of current Guild-supported projects or of the local and national work of the Church of Scotland.

Some meetings are led by Guild or Congregation members who have something interesting to say about their travels, hobbies or involvement with organizations, people or events of general interest.

In-house evenings often find Guild members getting “hands on” experience of craftwork, flower arranging, cookery (making and tasting) and other practical activities.

The Guild Committee aims to plan a varied, interesting and enjoyable programme for the session with ample time being allowed towards the end of each meeting to allow members to catch up with each other socially, a hugely important part of the Guild’s reason for being.

New Guild Theme:  2009 till 2012

“What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to walk humbly with your God and to love mercy.”

Session 2009-10:     “Called to act justly.”

There are six new projects to go with the theme and the two chosen for this session are Mission Aviation Fellowship’s new work on the island of Madagascar and World Mission’s Interfaith Project working between Israel and Palestine. MAF is already familiar to the Guild with its work in Africa so it will be interesting to find out about the trials and triumphs of the organisation in this new location.

Our Coffee Morning will be held as usual in November with proceeds going to the above projects. In February the folk from Gartnavel Royal Hospital will be welcomed to the traditional afternoon tea and entertainment.

A wide variety of topics will be covered in the other meetings, ranging from a “behind scenes” glimpse of the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, a joint meeting with the Christian Education Committee about the Scottish Bible Society’s work worldwide, to a sunshine-filled account of cruising in the Caribbean and Panama.

Potential new members will be made very welcome at the first social meeting on Tuesday, 22nd September, at 7.30 p.m. in the Livingstone Room.

Existing members are assured of a warm welcome back to the new session which opens with a virtual visit to the National Association of Flower Arrangers’ recent 50th Anniversary Flower Festival in Westminster Abbey.

All the meetings of the Guild are open to anyone who might wish to visit on any given evening.
