The Christian Education Committee organises a programme of Christian education throughout the year. Many opportunities are provided to discuss and explore the Christian faith, including regular Bible study groups and a programme of events entitled 'Thoughts for Today,' which considers contemporary Christianity in a variety of ways.
Thoughts for Today :: Programme for 2009/10 Thursday, 24th September The Renwicks and Goodalls in Zambia Important work is being done by our Mission Partners, Keith and Ida Waddell, in Mwandi Mission Hospital and School, Zambia. Colin, Eilidh, David and Anne from our own Congregation share something of their trip to Mwandi this summer and what it meant to each of them. Tuesday, 17th November (jointly with the Guild) Elaine Duncan :: Scottish Bible Society Elaine is the Chief Executive of the Scottish Bible Society which is 200 years old this year. The purpose of the society is to support Bible work around the world and to encourage Bible engagement in Scotland. Elaine is a real enthusiast, and a very positive advocate for Christianity at home and abroad. Tuesday, 19th January (jointly with the Guild) Colin Douglas :: Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel Colin recently retired as minister of Livingstone Ecumenical Parish Church, and has served as Locum Minister in Jerusalem. He will speak about EAPPI, the programme which recruits volunteers to spend three months in Palestine or Israel supporting vulnerable people and also those who are attempting to bring about reconciliation. Monday, 15th March Film Night :: The Iron Wall The Iron Wall is a highly-recommended film for anyone concerned with the quest for a just and peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict—a film that takes a clear stand while showing a genuine empathy for both sides.
